The Many Shades of Recruitment’s Grey

Working in Recruitment for 12 years, I’ve been the job seeker, the employer, the in-house recruiter and the agency recruiter.

In each role, my counter with people have been very diverse, it could be because of the many sectors I dabbled in or because of the various types of business and international cultures I have been exposed to.

Either way, working on both sides of the Atlantic the one thing that seems to mirror itself that stands out in my mind is the lack of guidance.

If you haven’t been actively in the job market because you’ve been one of the fortunate ones who haven’t really had to then you may not understand the real frustrations of candidates who have been in the market for a long time not knowing why? Or what they can do better.

Heres a typical secnario:

You see a vacancy online and you apply for the position. Days, weeks, even months go by and there’s no response. For a minute you wonder why this is but then you brush this off because you have accepted it has now become a “normal thing”

Here’s another scenario:

You have been contacted by a company or agency about a vacancy they are recruiting for. You are shortlisted for the interview and attend as scheduled. When the interview comes to an end, you are told that they will get in touch and let you know the outcome. Again days goes by, weeks go by, even months and you never get to know WHY you were unsuccessful.

In both sceanrios, you’ll sit back and reflect and find that you have a lot of unanswered questions like What did I do wrong? How could I have been better? Where were my shortcomings? And the ultimate question which is What is it they are not telling me?

I have the answers and I want you share it with you all.

I will be running a programme in July in Abuja (and possibly lagos if the demand is high) to give you all the keys to what I believe will open the door and create better leverage in a very competitive market. Not just as an job seeker but also as an entrepreneur who is looking for direction.

There will be several highlights to this event that will unfold as time goes on. I have reached out to my associates and colleagues in the industry to give us their various views, experiences and contributions so I can guarantee that you’ll come away from this event with an experience, one you can definitely implement as an employee, job – seeker, employer and an entrepreneur.
